Stargazing Astrophotography Adventure
August 6-8, 2012
Lone Pine, CA

Prepare to be amazed! This unique photo adventure is taking place in Alabama Hills (3.5 hours north of LA) and is part of a social media photo campaign I'm working on for Unistellar, a ground-breaking French telescope company that has recently partnered with Nikon and works closely with SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) and NASA. I'll have their newest telescope that we can use to view galaxies and other deep sky objects while I photograph additional product shots of their scope. I need to include some friendly faces in the photos and would like to show my friends one of my favorite camping sites ever! This magical location is a series of dispersed camping sites on BLM (Bureau of Land Management) property so its free camping in protected land that has no electricity, reception, bathrooms, or water. It will be just us and mother nature. The quaint and super cute town of Lone Pine is a 10 minute drive away where we can eat and shower if we want to rent a hotel. I plan on camping out in the hills and have multiple tents and a shelter. This particular location is one of the most famous places to photograph the Milky Way and it will be during the new moon and the peak of the biggest meteor shower of the year so the skies will be dark and full of activity!

We're in a great place for creating beautiful photos (and video if anyone wants to shoot). Alabama Hills has been the location for hundreds of many famous films and music videos including:

  • Tremors

  • Gladiator

  • Star Trek Generations

  • Disney’s Dinosaur

  • G.I. Joe

  • Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

  • Iron Man

  • Django Unchained

  • Godzilla (2014)

The camp site is accessible by dirt/sand roads but you don't need a 4wd or to do any off roading and we'll be able to have our cars right by where we are camping and there is a ton of super cool rock formations and caves all around to explore. I'd love to get some portraits if anyone wants to get creative with hair/make-up and wardrobe options that aren't related to the Unistellar scope.

Here are some of my most recent approved client photos to give you an idea of what I need to shoot aside from any personal photos and creative ventures. You can see some of my other portraits and astrophotos here on my website.

The Location
Here are some scouting photos from my solo-camping trip last month when I discovered this location.
